MATTER
STATES OF MATTER
MASS:
-It is the amount of matter in an object.
-Mass is measured in kilograms (kg) or grams (g). 1kg=1000g.
-We use different types of scales to measure mass.
VOLUME:
-It is the amount of space an object occupies. Bigger objects have more volume than smaller objects.
-Volume is measured in cubic metres (m3) or cubic centimetres (cm3).
-Volume is usually expressed in litres (l) or mililitres (ml). 1l =1dm3
-Volume is measured in measuring cylinders.
DENSITY:
-Density refers to the concentration of matter in a particular volume.
-Density is calculated by dividing the mass by its volume: D= m/v
-Volume is measured in grams / cubic centimetres (cm3)
DOES IT SINK OF FLOAT?
Object sinks in water depending on their density. When the density of an object is higher than the density of mater, the object sinkgs.
The density of water is: 1g/cm3
